Arachnophonia is a twenty minute improvisation using my invented instrument the Arachnophone a modular electroacoustic ‘percussion’ instrument offering the user (me) haptic interactions with frequency-based signals using physical modelling synthesis.

I have developed a modular electroacoustic ‘percussion’ instrument offering the user (me) haptic interactions with frequency-based signals using physical modelling synthesis. 

The Arachnophone goes back to the core spectralist principle of frequency and delivers an electroacoustic instrument based on converting echoes - periodic repeats of sound travelling through the air - to frequencies - periodic compressions and rarefactions in the air. In this way the Arachnophone translates rhythm (periodicity) into pitch/ timbre. An acousmatic instrument with a capriciousness comparable to acoustic string or percussive instruments.
