I have developed a modular electroacoustic ‘percussion’ instrument offering the user (me) haptic interactions with frequency-based signals using physical modelling synthesis. 

The Arachnophone adopts Karlheinz Stockhausen's principle of the chromatic scale of tempos and delivers an electro-acousmatic instrument based on converting echoes - periodic repeats of sound travelling through the air - to frequencies - periodic compressions and rarefactions in the air. In this way the Arachnophone translates rhythm (discrete phase) into pitch/ timbre, with a responsiveness comparable to acoustic string or percussive instruments.
